Wedding
About two weeks ago Rachelle and I got married! That's why I haven't had much time to update this site. Everything went really well; the weather was beautiful (but hot), the ceremony went off without a hitch and the reception was great.
On Friday the 14th we had the rehearsal at the church. We all arrived at the church at 6pm and the priest was nowhere to be found. Rachelle had to run over to the rectory to get him. Once he got there, we went through a pretty standard rehearsal. He had us do all sorts of weird things like the guys and I walking out in a line across the front of the church and lining up on one side. I've only ever seen the groom and groomsmen just standing at the front when it starts. Then once the girls start walking down each guy had to start walking back toward her and meet in the middle. It was strange. Then he had some complex hand-jive for putting the rings on, which I think we messed up.
After the rehersal we had dinner at the Elma Conservation Club. Everyone in the wedding and all of my relatives from out of town were invited. It was a great time. It had been years since I've seen some of my family; I'm glad I had a chance to sit down and chat with them before the craziness of the wedding day. This club has an inside area and a really nice deck. We spent most of the time out on the deck. Right at the end of the night I got bitten by a mosquito right on my forehead centered between my eyes. Figures. I know Kelly took a picture of it, I'll have to see if I can get it from her to post.
The day of the wedding was pretty smooth too. The priest told us (Dave, Jason, Jon and I) to be there no later than 1:30 for the 2pm ceremony. We were there exactly at 1:30 and guess who was nowhere to be found? That's right, the priest. He didn't show his face until about 10 minutes before the ceremony started! After that, the ceremony was a breeze. Rachelle held it together pretty well under the circumstances. I was expecting her to start crying way sooner than she actually did. She probably would have been fine but her Aunt Pat lost it during her reading which started a chain reaction.
The reception started out a little rocky but it was a great night overall. We contracted a mini bus from Laidlaw to take everyone from the hotel to the reception site and back at the end of the night. The bus was 30 minutes late showing up at the hotel. Not only that, but when he finally got there the guy had absolutely no clue how to get to the reception site. Rachelle's dad and my dad convinced the driver to hang out at the reception site until the end because nobody thought this guy could find his way back to pick everyone up. That would have really sucked if everyone was stranded at the Old Orchard Inn at midnight. Rachelle had to give the driver turn-by-turn directions to get back to the hotel.
One of the most memorable parts of the reception was when Jason and Dave dressed up in blue and orange tuxedos just like Dumb and Dumber. It was amazing!
