Annoying Family

Last night Rachelle and I went to Dibella's for dinner before we went out to a movie. When we walked in there was this family there still placing their order. They were the most annoying people I've seen in a long time. They had two small kids and the kids were standing on chairs so they could see up over the counter. The little girl was actually laying on the counter with her face over all the fixins. This little girl also was talking to her father in the loudest voice I think I've ever heard; she was like screaming every word. That alone made me want to kill. Then for some reason it took the dad like 10 minutes to figure out how to pay for his family's $27 meal. And after he finally paid he was asking for an itemized receipt (for the 4 subs, 4 drinks, 2 chips and 2 cookies). Then while we were eating the little girl was like running all over the place instead of sitting there eating with her family. I just don't understand how the parents could let this happen.

Yep, seen that before. It does make you want to kill, or not have kids. Some parents have no control over their kids at all. Sounds like they should not be parents at all. We try to get a seat in a restaurant far away from families like that. Especially if it is a nice restaurant. Can't enjoy a meal with a screaming out of control kid. Either that or I give the parents dirty looks the whole time. I'm not afraid to do that.

i find a well placed glare at the child does more good than waiting for the parent to deal

The problem is that parents are afraid to do any type of actual "parenting". They are scared to discipline their kids. And quite frankly, they are scared of their kids. They want to be their friends not the "bad guy". So they do nothing to control the behavior. Seen way too much of that when I was working in preschools.

I see your point on that Elaine. As soon as anyone tries to discipline their kids in public, someone else is on the phone calling the police. When I was younger and got out of hand, I was smacked, but nowadays you can't even do that. We are creating a society where these kids grow up getting into trouble and the parents have lost total control over what these kids do. I see it all the time working for a police dept. It is always the same kids, and you just want to strangle the parents.

I don't think I was ever smacked in public. But I knew that if I misbehaved I would be smacked when I got home. I guess people are afraid to use force even in the privacy of their own homes.

Way I see it, if the parents aren't willing to smack their kids when they need to, someone else should do it for them.
